Have you ever felt a pain or ache that starts in your back and runs down into your butt, leg or foot?

Do one or both or your hands "fall asleep" while working or sitting at a computer?

Have you ever bent over to tie your shoe or pick up something off the floor and felt a "pop" on intense pain in your back upon attempting to straighten up?

How about intense muscle cramps in the legs, arms or hands?

When you sit, bend, stand or turn your head in a certain position, do you experience burning, numbness or tingling in your arms or legs?

Are you walking differently but don't have any pre-existing hip or knee injuries?

If you are nodding your head or saying yes to any of the above questions, there is a very good possibility that you have a degenerative disc that has become herniated, meaning the disc is exerting pressure and compressing the spinal cord and/or the nerve root exiting the spinal canal.  The most well-known example of this is Sciatica.

The intervertebral disc is made up of a combination of water, collagen fibers and a protein-based gel.  The outer layers of the disc is called the annulus and is similar in appearance to the rings we observe in a tree stump.  The inner part of the disc is called the nucleus.  In a herniated disc, as you can see in the photo above, the nucleus is no longer contained by the collagen fibers of the annulus and pushes outward to "bulge" the disc.  The pressure exerted by the disc against the spinal cord or nerve root is what causes the pain or symptoms to travel or radiate away from the immediate site of injury.

The best way to help you is to first make sure that you have a disc injury.  Through a FREE comprehensive examination, we can together find out the reason behind your symptoms.

A combination of chiropractic and exercise is the best, most natural and least invasive way to treat the symptoms related to a disc problems.

At Carolina Beach Chiropractic and Lundy Healthcare at the Beach, we have the only technology available to correct a disc herniation: Non-Surgical Spinal Disc Decompression.  To read and hear more about this amazing machine, go to our page on Spinal Decompression.
